Beyond Blocks is committed to building a ‘culture of safety’ in which the children in our care are protected from abuse, harm and radicalisation. Under no circumstances should any of our staff or volunteers inflict physical or psychological harm on a child and will do their utmost to prevent anyone else from doing so.

We will respond promptly and appropriately to all incidents or concerns regarding the safety of a child under our care. Our child protection procedures comply with all relevant legislation, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and After-school Clubs, Community Activities and Tuition; Safeguarding Guidance for Providers and with guidance issued by Kingston and Richmond Safeguarding Children Partnership.

As many of our sessions are held within schools, our first port of call when dealing with any safeguarding incident is to follow the school’s own individualised procedure as well as adhering to our own processes. At times when clubs are held outside of schools where building proprietors may not know the children attending (for example, in a church hall) we will revert to using our own policy, making sure to inform all necessary bodies associated with the child and premises.

We will therefore:

  • · Always read and follow each school’s own safeguarding policy, building relationships with their safeguarding teams
  • · Expect schools to automatically provide us with any updates to their safeguarding policy
  • · Additionally follow our own policy procedures in the event of a safeguarding incident. For example, record details of the incident, report and share actions and any lessons learned.
  • · Always keep important safeguarding forms and documents to hand
  • . Review our Safeguarding Policy at least once a year, in September, to make sure changes to KCSIE are added accordingly.
